Tom Oberheim announces new Two Voice Pro Synthesizer

Coming this June from Tom Oberheim is his latest re-release, this time of the classic SEM 2 Voice Synthesizer.  Everyone is pretty familiar with his other classics SEM synths-- the 1 and 4 voice-- but this one sits firmly in between with a price tag somewhere in the middle as well.  While it's always nice to see more analogs from a classic maker on the market, this one will probably be reserved for the professionals and die-hards with its 3500 dollar price tag.  Of course, the new features and incredible sound are well worth the money if you can afford it.  This might be the Moog Voyager's new competition in that price range.

"Features:
  • Mini-Sequencer is enhanced - you still generate a sequence with the knobs ( up to 16 positions ) but you can store sequences from the knobs into flash memory (up to 99 sequences stored)
  • Two sequences can be played simultaneously (or play one sequence while also playing on the keyboard, like the old one)
  • After sequences are stored in flash memory, you can edit them to add 2-way, 3-way or 4-way ratcheting and you can program the gate length from zero (like a rest) up to almost the complete step length
  • Sequences can be chained into songs, and each step in a song can be programmed for sequence number, transpose amount and number of repeats
  • Sequencer syncs to Midi Clock
  • Keyboard outputs velocity and pressure
  • Each module (both SEMs, Mini-Sequencer, Keyboard Control) has mini-jack patch points (over 50 patchpoints)
  • Pitch and Modulation wheels
  • Pan pots
  • Headphone output
  • Separate Vibrato LFO
The U.S. price of the new Two Voice Pro is $3495"

You can expect it to sound like its smaller counterpart, seen below.  For more information and how to order, check out Tom Oberheim's Site.

Space out with the Yamaha CS-80

I found this amazing video of the Yamaha CS-80 a couple nights ago which showcases some awesome sounds and really shares the beauty of the instrument.  This video comes from Logan Mannstrane, who has an awesome Vimeo account dedicated to ambient synth sounds here.  I've also posted a couple of his other videos below, the Oberheim 4 Voice SEM and a custom SCI Pro-One.  All  of his are beautifully shot.

Arturia planning Oberheim SEM Virtual Synth Plugin

Arturia is planning a new remake for the virtual synth line of the classic Oberheim SEM synthesizer, continuing their long line of virtual synth plugins based on classic synths.  Currently, they have the Minimoog Model D, SCI Prophet 5, and Roland Jupiter 8 to name a few.  The Oberheim joins the team, and it's the first virtual Oberheim I've seen.  More details should be on Arturia's site on the 25th of October.
