Chromeo - "Over Your Shoulder"

At last, the new Chromeo single is here, and it's everything I dreamed it would be.  "Over the Shoulder" is a fantastic track to lead off White Women with, and while it's certainly not as synth heavy as some of the duo's previous tracks, it's every bit classic Chromeo otherwise, with humor and classic hooks.  You can bet the rest of the record will have plenty of synth though-- the Vine and Instagram previews have certainly indicated so.  Can't wait to hear the full record.

Chromeo's "White Women" Trailer might be the best thing I've seen and heard all year

Wow.  The Vine and Instagram teasers Chromeo has slowly trickled out couldn't prepare me for this awesome taste of their new record, White Women.  The song, most importantly, sounds like a track out of an old funk collection, complete with imbedded humor (yeah, you heard a comment about small breasts in there).  The video itself has an stylish flair and classy quality to it as well.  Chromeo's been refining their sound, and White Women promises to be their opus.  When can I hear more?

Future Music's In the Studio with Chromeo [Video]

It's no secret that Chromeo has a knack for synthesis, and this Future Music In the Studio demonstrates just how synth crazy they are-- and hits home with what this blog is all about.  The above video shows their studio (I believe in Canada) with their fantastic array of analog and digital synths and drum machines.  Currently, the band is writing its next record in New York City with a reduced synthesizer setup, judging from their Vine account, so this video is slightly outdated, but they still have some of the same gear and work the same way.  The video below shows them working on a song from scratch, so there's a wealth of great information here.  This video was in Future Music magazine a couple years back, but has only become available on YouTube this week.  Be on the lookout for their new record in the fall.

The Perfect Collaboration: Why Chromeo and Breakbot should do a record together

Breakbot's By Your Side is as smooth as modern funk gets.  The record keeps an old, "your mom and dad's record" vibe to it with its incredibly vintage production,  The record is never overbearing with its arrangement.  It is funk, with piano and fat bass throughout.

Chromeo have been longtime proponents of new funk, specifically a subdivision called electro-funk, due to their use of synthesizers and a talkbox.  Each record Chromeo has put out has been progressively more accessible and pop without compromising on the funk at heart-- it's as if Roger Troutman of Zapp and Hall & Oates magically had two children of their own.

Punks Jump Up feat Dave 1 - Mr Overtime (Official Video)

Yeah, I'm aware that literally the post before this is a remix of this track, but I found this official music video of Punks Jump Up featuring Dave 1, and it's too cool not to post.  In fact, the colors are so awesome, if and when I re-do the color scheme for the blog, I might take some of these ideas.  I like them that much.  It's also cool to hear the non-remix version, the track is actually spectacular.  I saw Dave-1 tweeted that it's nearly 2 years old as far as creation goes (he says he recorded his vocals a couple years ago), so it's interesting to see a track that's been sitting around for quite some time.  Well worth the wait, though!

Punks Jump Up - Mr. Overtime featuring Dave-1 (Oliver Remix)

I can't remember the last time I loved a collaboration as much as this.  Oliver remixes Punks Jump Up's track "Mr. Overtime", which features Dave-1 of Chromeo fame on vocals.  This track ROCKS.  Lots of sounds, a great beat, and awesome synths.  Totally a banger for the clubs, and should have the fans jumping.  Also dig the incredibly retro cover art.  Nice work, Oliver/Punks Jump Up/Dave-1!

Chromeo treat the Electric Factory to Halloween Funk

Chromeo were in Philadelphia this Monday for Halloween.  While the Electric Factory is not my favorite of the Philly venues, I could tell something special was in the air when I arrived.  Perhaps it was the mutual high blood sugar shared by all the guests at the Factory.  Tons of kids were dressed in costumes, some of which were hilarious-- definitely a few unique choices thrown in, too.  I haven't even been a Chromeo fan for long, but I was really anticipating their show, and they sure as hell delivered.

I've been grooving to Chromeo lately, and after combing the web for information I've found a great deal of information on their studio.  If you don't know Chromeo, they fit the bill of a synth band and have a great retro feel to them.  They balance pop with old school electronic 80s funk, and it works perfectly.  Here's a list of some of their gear:
